Thank you, guys! It is not clear whether Statistics is a STEM major, but I think it is reasonable that it is, since Statistics is a branh of Math. Some universities have Statistics departments and others have Statistics as a concentration in a Math graduate program.
As a statistician, can you not live with something like "There's an 80% chance that statistics is considered part of the "M" in STEM"?
(Couldn't resist. Just trying to find something humorous in our common misery.)

AC21: if my new employer is open to do either EAD or H1, what should I prefer? I want to take the least risky route.
If employer offers H1B transfer, use that and also invoke AC21.

Ok move over Prez elections..what happens in 09 after the Prez election..the current senate is the same..which refuses to pass any immi bill..just because the Prez elections will get over this year..why are we expecting that next year any bill will pass??..
So Lobby , more lobbying and extreme lobbying..is the way to go..!!I dont see any other way out;)
Why we are expecting that something next year? One Word. Politics. The current congress will not do anything now, because, they dont want to alienate 1 particular group during an election year. Now, I am not saying that they will do anything in '09. But, with more lobbying, we might see some success.

as far as i know CSC sending the transfer notices after issuing the receipts. Did u check with ur lawyer for receipts? .

After you are done with all your questions and assuming USCIS hasn't kicked you out of their office, make it clear that you want USCIS to look at your application before others ahead of you in the queue. If they don't, "you will be back" for another infopass.

If you have received letters from USCIS asking for $5K for your FOIA request, Please fax a copy of that letter to Immigration Voice.
We want to collect those letters and proceed with some big effort on this issue. It is thus important that we have lots of such letters from members.

Time is short and we need letters in the next couple of days if possible.

thanks guys.. thats informative riva2005.. The intention is not to screw with her application, but understanding the intricacies so that I can expedite my seperation. It is indeed a pain, with no kid, us both being independent, however with a townhome, with both our names on it. I am hoping and planning for an amicable settlement and one of the things that was debated as the gray area was this whole immigration - GC/485 derivative status that I had to reply - "please verify with an attorney" . The hold up is because of the want for an amicable settlement and agreement of terms, which I guess I will never have in entirerity.

I checked at NY Kaplan. they have 3months course for $1800 and 4months course for TOEFL for $5500. Since we need atleast 4 months I20, I guess I have to check some community college if they offer something cheap.
One more question is, the community college usally have admission from spring. They don't issue I20 in summer. So I guess I have to start from January itself. In that case is it possible to get admission in January and start the class in summer? In that way I can save some money.

That law is unconstitutional. INA doesnt say that everyone born in United States is a citizen. Even the Constitution says that. To deny birth-right citizenship to anyone (children of legal or illegal residents) would require constitutional amendment.
Constitutional amendment is not a joke. This bill is a rhetorical statement, not an intent to legislate it.

if you want to pay $100, it is easy. lesser amount is very difficult. I went through pain of using my banks online bill pay. It took me an hour to set it up. And couple of days back I received an email saying the bill has been returned - probably because it is more than 90 days!
I lost valuable time , IV lost some donation.
I am not sure why paying less than $100 has been made so difficult.

We are going to kick start a huge "Sign & Dine" campaign in Northern California to support Administrative Fix effort. This is the time to show your support.
This is what we need:
- We need you to join us and show support for IV at a social event this Sunday(01/20) @ 11:30 a.m. in Sunnyvale. PM me or join Nor. Cal IV Yahoo group for details regarding address of the venue. We will have the Admin Fix letters ready for you to sign. So come and put your signatures and we will have some tasty snacks ready for you to eat***
- We need volunteers to call other IV members and motivate them to join the Admin Fix letter campaign
- We need volunteers to do some foot work in areas that have high legal immigrant traffic. I have done this, trust me, it is exciting work. We will provide you with flyers etc, we just need your time.
- Any other way you can help
