My wife had recently changed her status from H4 to H1 and had applied her SSN and got it.
So i dont think there's any new rule.
if you have a valid I94 then it should not cause any issue

I am really amazed how some guys do not even know how to search house on internet and posting 10 messages for very basic question and dreaming of owning house during one of the turbulent times in the history.

it was in 2006 quota, got her h1 approval document in november, applied in november second week and by dec 2 week got her ssn.
She was on h4 for the past 3 years and converted to H1 in december officially( as she got her SSN)

DREAM ACT is very much a moral issue. Doing the right thing for innocent kids, who had no say in their fate until this date. All must support DREAM with heart & soul.
While doing "Right" thing, we must be very careful to NOT penalize the people who are legally standing in line. These Legal immigrants and their kids who had already waited 10 years in line could become illegal any day.These kids who are here legally will need another DREAM act 2 or 3 years from now. ONLY RECAPTURE can save the "Right" thing from being the true Right or justice for ALL.
Why do we need Recapture more than DREAM ACT or with DREAM ACT?

Is the question asked to me when I communicated with someone in favor of DREAM act. We need good answers when asked this question.

I haven't read all of it but I gather that it is important to keep evidence of the fact that you were working and not fired or laid off during this so called "bench time". Keep proper documentation during this time. Keep records of emails, travel, internal projects, timesheets, partial pay, anything that you can use to show your continued employment. Don't give the the employer a chance to claim that you were not employed or on leave of absence during that time.

Yesterday I went to SSN Administration office to apply SSN for my wife to get the tax rebate, you definitely need EAD if that person doesn't have work permit. So it automatically changes the status from H4 to EAD. I have also confirmed this the officer about the status, he confirmed that the status will automatically changed to EAD. So H4 no longer exists for spouse if the spouse carried H4 earlier. Hope this will answers your question. Regarding the tax rebate, you have to have SSN to qualify, so that's the main reason I went to SSN administration office for my wife.

I travelled to chennai last March via Emirates. No problems with transit visa or something. The price was good too. airport has a duty free shop for Jewellery and other stuff. good place to shop. but we had to wait a long time for the connecting flight.
The next time I go there, am planning to take a visa and tour Dubai. Heard that Dubai has some great places to see.

Do it yourself & do not depend on your lawyer. Call them. I filed in Aug'05 & got it in 45 days. I used to call their IT guy in DC office & he was very prompt in fixing issues ( which could be IT related)
